1 Timothy 2:9 Is Not In the Bible
Some of you are saying, “Wait a minute! 1 Timothy 2:9 is in my Bible and it says: ‘In like manner, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefastness and sobriety...’”
IF it was in the Bible the verse would be saying that women ought to dress in a manner that is decent, with a sense of shame and sound judgment. But since some evidently do not believe that it has any application in the 21st century, it might as well not even be in the Bible.
For an example, I have heard some say: “Well, who is going to decide how short is too short and how tight is too tight?” Since it is being implied that there is no one qualified to distinguish modest from immodest, poor old 1 Timothy 2:9 is reduced to a non-verse. Oh, and by the way, wouldn’t that mean that no one in the first century was wise enough to discern the difference either? According to this logic, the verse was never intended for application. In essence, it never was in the Bible!
So, if you can overlook the possibility that you might cause someone to sin through lust, go ahead and wear whatever you want in public. Post indecent pictures of yourself on Facebook. After all, 1 Timothy 2:9 doesn’t exist.
Obviously, I’m being facetious. 1 Timothy 2:9 is part of God’s Word and will be reverenced by all who want to honor Him. Dress modestly.
